Class Announcements Week of May 17-21A Quick "LOOK" at our Week:
In Language Arts this week, we will integrate the study of "animals" into our reading, writing and science lessons and activities. In writing workshop, we will continue writing, editing and publshing our class fairy tale, and student-written fairy tales. In literacy centers, students will continue focusing on practicing sight words on list #4, spelling words with different patterns long vowel sound patterns, identifying and spelling contractions, compound words and words with blends and digraphs. Students will meet in their guided reading groups and complete their independent work and literacy centers to practice reading, writing and phonics skills. **We will begin PALS( Phonological Assessment of Literacy Skills) testing this week. Next week, we will assess students on reading and spelling sight words on all four lists and will do a final DRA (Developmental Reading Assessment)> In math, please have your child continue practicing addition and stubtraction facts to 10. Students can go to the "playkidsgames.com" link and go to the math section to a game called "Math Facts Practice" to practice addition and stubtraction facts for speed and accuracy! Also, go to the new website called, Math Magician! Also this week in math, we will continue to work on skip counting and numbers to 100 and beyond. Please continue to have your child practice subtraction and addition skills, story problems and counting money. Finally, in Science, we will continue our unit on "Animals" and wrap up our unit on "Plants". **Parents- Please remember to check your child's folder each day. Take out anything that is graded or should be kept at home. Please don't keep the homework packet in the folder. Only put it in when it is all complete and ready to be turned in on Friday. ** Please have your child go to Raz-Kids to practice reading in addition to their guided reading books and "STARS" books** *Passwords and Login info. was sent home on 10/19/09. You can access Raz-Kids through the "Class Links" below. *Use the "Magnetic Words" link on our "Class Links" section as a tool for your child to use to practice spelling sight words on list #1 and list #2 and list #3 and list #4 HAVE FUN!
